VPP Velocity Prediction Program

Velocity Prediction Program (VPP)

A Velocity Prediction Program (or VPP) is a computer program which balances the sail thrust against the hull drag; the sail sideforce against the appendage sideforce and the heeling moment against the hull and crew righting moment in order to predict the yacht speed for a given true wind speed and course.

These results are normally presented in a series of polar graphs as shown here.

At Dibley Marine, we employ VPP and other performance predictive technologies to ensure our hull forms achieve the highest potential performance and sea-keeping qualities allowable within the remit of the client's brief.
